does that mean you had to actually act on those memories...?

Thankfully we did not have to do anything with that.
But we constantly had to face the consequences of what we did.
Seeing people it affected.

not really doing these things but having the memories you had
what were you trying to do if not that? were they things you could try to fix?

We woke up, and what we initially remembered was getting killed by someone.
We did not remember who or why.
We had to figure out each person who killed us to settle a karmic debt.

i see...
did you guys at least remember the how to have some sort of clue?
how do you even start solving that?

We had to investigate.
We went around and talked to people, and as we did memories came back to us that revealed more.
At some point we were attacked by a rat who wanted revenge against us.

[ no different than what they were doing last year, then. but: ]

The rat kidnapped Hak and I, which lead to a confrontation.
His lover was sick and dying, apparently due to what we were doing.

[ he really has to pause for a second to kind of go "the fuck." ]

um. how did the confrontation turn out? were you guys separated for long?

We all joined forces against the rat and defeated him.
But then we were separated again immediately after.

okay. makes sense. was the rat one of the people who killed one of you then, or somebody else who just got in the way?
were you separated from hak too that time?

Hak went with Yuma.
I ran after Medea, but I was unable to catch up to her, so we were separated.
The rat didn't kill us.

it's easy enough to get to the simulation room though and he pulls up to a stop next to him. ]

I set the timer for thirty minutes, but it can go longer if we want it to.

... The people who killed us were all people who were important to us, I think. In our actual lives. For good reason, since we were terrible.

I don't think I have to say this, but I will. Those people in there weren't actually you, so you have to remember you didn't do those terrible things. Not that it changes how you feel about being killed by someone important to you.

How'd you find out in the end?

[ it's a sentiment he understands. after all, once they all figured out what was going on, they immediately started to fight against it. it was obvious none of them agreed.

but emotions are tricky things that don't always listen to logic. ]

The memory came back after the confrontation.

[ emotions are extremely tricky and that's why he's being slightly more careful with this. ]

Awful... [ just mumbling. ] We didn't get our memories back until we reached the summit and found the people more important to us. So to you, it felt like these people were confronting you but you didn't know the depth of their relevance to you.

Mm. It did all slowly come back to us eventually, but we spent most of the time working with just half the information.

I thought it was my teacher who killed me at first, but I was wrong.
